By remembering to always tap in when entering and tap out when exiting, you’ll avoid paying the maximum fare and ensure you’re only charged for the zones you’ve travelled.
But for U-Pass BC pass participants, the biggest reason for tapping out is to help TransLink improve the transit system for you. When you tap in and out, TransLink gets valuable data telling us where people are traveling and when. This data lets TransLink know where and when service is needed and helps us decide what changes to make when resources allow.
Tapping in at the start of each leg of your trip and tapping out at the end of each leg is the most important thing you need to do with the Compass system. When we launch, we’ll provide lots of reminders to help customers remember to tap out and avoid paying more than they need to.
