The AMS is committed to making the student body’s voices heard. We highly encourage you to visit our website www.outreachams.ca, where you can interact with an active petition signing and where you can voice your questions, concerns, and opinions on issues surrounding your daily commute.
The VPX is committed to maintaining momentum on this project, and your participation in varying activities and events will further strengthen the cause and message behind the Build Broadway Campaign.
Build Broadway was launched in September of 2013, with the intention to gain:
- A firm commitment by all stakeholders (including Federal, Provincial and Regional governments) to fund and construct a rail-based rapid transit line from Commercial Drive in Vancouver to UBC’s Point Grey Campus.
- Temporary solutions put in place along the Broadway corridor and arterial routes to help reduce overcrowding, speed up the frequency of services, and make commuting more efficient for everyone.
- A sustainable, fair, and balanced funding formula for the public transit users of the Metro Vancouver area
The purpose behind the Build Broadway Campaign stems from the fact that the need for public transportation is increasing by %3 annually, but the current formulated budget and resources allocation is decreasing 600,000 system wide service hours. The need for rapid transportation is there, but the initiative to make a commitment to increase service is not.
